LADEE is orbiting the moon to gather detailed information about the lunar atmosphere, conditions near the surface, and environmental influences on lunar dust - helping researchers understand how future exploration may shape the lunar environment and how the environment may affect future travelers to the Moon.
Right now LRO is orbiting the Moon, helping us prepare for future human exploration of the Moon by finding safe landing sites, locating potential resources, and characterizing the lunar environment.
LCROSS did it's part by helping to confirm the presence of water ice -- a valuable resource for human exploration -- by smashing the upper stage of the rocket into a permanently shadowed crater at the Moon's south pole.
India's spacecraft orbited the Moon, characterizing the lunar surface and composition. The mission included two NASA instruments.
