NASA and MyMoon have teamed up to blog about everything lunar. Art, literature, music, movies, science, and everything in between!
The Houston metropolitan area is a unique community that hosts Johnson Space Center in its southern corridor. Houston is also well known for its vibrant underground music scene. Surely there are musicians or NASA employees who have fuzed this unique environment into a work of art. Here are some musicians from the underground music scene or NASA community right here in Houston, Texas creating music that is spacey, futuristic,or just easy on the ears.

This is just a small list of spacey music I like to listen to while I'm working or studying. What is your favorite spacey sounding song to listen at work or dreaming of the day humans will be living on the Moon?

In a recent article published on space.com, researchers discuss what causes the lumpy gravity of the Moon. As many people may know, the Moon has an odd gravity field. For example, one perturbation ...
Our Moon isn’t the only interesting natural satellite in our solar system. It turns out that there are a large number of fascinating ...
The Moon ain't what it used to be. People gush about asteroids, Mars, Jovian moons, exoplanets...but it feels like if you bring up the Moon, you mostly just get either a blank or a 'meh'. When ...
Today is Astronomy Day, and one of the best ways to celebrate is by going out and doing some stargazing. And one of the best ways to get started with stargazing is to use the Moon as a guide and ...
The mission of the Kepler Project is to discover habitable planets orbiting other stars. However, many of these planets are light years away and unreachable by humans with our current technology. So ...
great post. it is indeed interesting to me that there is a sort of genre of 'space' music. I like to listen to ambient space music stuff on youtube sometimes to pass out... interesting that an environment thought to be basically empty and lifeless speaks to us in such a way that we feel certain music is more 'spacey' than others. I wonder why or how this connection came about. Its also interesting to read about and listen to the "voices of the planets" like what does jupiter sound like from 100,000 KM out and stuff, every planet has its own "noise" and although its not very techno, its still neat to me ! :)
I personally always found dvoraks new world symphony 9th movement to get very "space conquest-y"

skip to about 32:05 to see what I mean and think of yourself cascading through the atmosphere of a foreign world like a mandalorian warrior in a protective suit ala felix baumgartner for a few minutes...its a good ride ;)
Great post & lots of good suggestions!
I would have to say "Intergalactic" by the Beasties... :)
OR
'Cosmic Love' by Florence and the Machine if I'm feeling more mellow.
Not local but classic!
the beastie boys initergalactic??! ... that takes me back ! my adult life makes more sense now. :P

I love space (and especially Moon) themed music! Or at least space-y :)
M83, named after a galaxy, is a big one:

Lost Lander's name, logo, CD booklet, at least one of their songs are space-themed. Singer's a real big space geek:

(Plus they're Portland-local :D )
Lykke Li did a series of music videos "from the Moon"---this one is great. Nice mood:
